Fees and Fines Policy

The fees and fines outlined below are meant to encourage the growth and success of hiway’s peer-to-peer market place and discourage any irresponsible behavior. When small issues do arise, it’s always best if Users and Providers can work them out between themselves. However, if you see anything that looks particularly wrong, you should contact us at [email protected].

USER CHARGES

User Cancellation Fee

When a User cancels a Reservation, the following Cancellation Fees may be charged at hiway’s sole discretion:

  • After a Trip has started, it is not refundable and may not be canceled. 
  • Cancellation within 1 hour after booking the Car but before the Reservation start time: no fee. 
  • More than 1 hour after booking the Car:
    • Cancellation prior to 7 days before the Reservation starts: 10% of the total cost for the reservation
    • Cancellation between 7 days and 24 hs before the Reservation starts: 25% of the total cost for the reservation
    • Cancellation less than 24 hours before the Reservation starts: 100% of the total cost for the reservation

Improper return fine

If a user is more than 24 hours late, is unresponsive, or caused a trip cancellation because of their lateness, they will be charged an improper return fee at hiway’s discretion (up to $1,000).

User no-shows or late pick-up

If a user fails to cancel and does not show up for the trip, a “late cancellation fee” of 100% of the total cost for the reservation will apply. If a user is more than 30 minutes late for pick-up, the guest may be charged a $20* late fee.

*Hiway will charge a processing fee of 5% on the total amount due.

**Roadside Assistance Charge

The User will be responsible for any fees associated with the services provided when Hiway intervenes in any roadside event due to violations of our Terms of Service or other negligent actions taken by a User.

PROVIDER CHARGES

Owner Cancellation Fee

When a Provider cancels a Reservation, the following Cancellation Fees may be charged at hiway’s sole discretion:

  • After a Trip has started, it may not be canceled.
  • Cancellation within 1 hour after confirming Request but before the Reservation start time: no fee. 
  • More than 1 hour after confirming the Request:
    • Cancellation prior to 7 days before the Reservation starts: 10% of the total cost for the reservation
    • Cancellation between 7 days and 24 hs before the Reservation starts: 25% of the total cost for the reservation
    • Cancellation less than 24 hours before the Reservation starts: 100% of the total cost for the reservation
    • Cancellation less than 1 hour before the Reservation starts: 100% of Reservation price + $25 fee.
    • Canceled with no advance notice (No-Show): 100% of Reservation price + $50 fee.

*Hiway will charge a processing fee of 5% on the total amount due.

**Providing an unsafe vehicle, a vehicle that breaks down or a vehicle that is not as offered will result in a deduction of all Provider earnings from the associated Reservation, a potential fee for roadside services rendered, and the above-mentioned fine(s). Hiway also reserves the right to charge the cost of lost revenue and to remove the Provider and/or vehicle from the marketplace. Please refer to our Vehicle Misrepresentation document.

***Hiway reserves the right to charge an administration or inconvenience fee, plus any costs incurred by Hiway, for categories not explicitly noted above.

****Regular Maintenance Charge
The Provider is responsible for all regularly scheduled maintenance on the car in line with Hiway’s policy. In certain cases, Hiway and/or a User may cover required maintenance up front, at Hiway’s sole discretion. When Hiway or a User shoulders costs for a car’s regularly scheduled maintenance, the Provider is responsible to pay these costs and will be charged a Regular Maintenance Charge to cover the parts, servicing, and other associated costs incurred.
